PNG West Raises Funds for Sojourner Project

To cook up awareness and raise funds for Sojourner Project, Inc, a domestic violence shelter, Professional Networking Group (PNG) West members sold hotdogs, chips, and soda to hungry customers at Jubilee Foods in Mound, Minnesota August 20. Jubilee provided their professional hotdog wagon, food, and all the fixings. PNG West members matched the funds raised for a total of $317.00.

The donation was presented to Kristin Johnson, Development Director of Sojourner Project, Inc. Started in 1979, Sojourner Project, Inc is a community-based organization committed to eliminating domestic violence against women and children. The organization works with many police departments to serve west Hennepin County and more than 1,000 battered women and children annually.

"Sojourner Project, Inc is so grateful to have the support and partnership of PNG West," says Johnson. "Without caring community members it would simply not be possible for Sojourner to meet the needs of battered women in our community."

"This gift from PNG West will fund about 12 hours of legal advocacy," continues Johnson. "While 12 hours may seem short, it can have a long-lasting impact on a woman’s safety. This amount of time will allow Sojourner to help a battered woman get a restraining order that offers her, and often times her children, legal protection for one full year."

"This fundraising effort adds to the pride I feel being part of PNG West," says Michael Shields, 2005 President of PNG West. PNG West is a Wayzata-based networking group with members from a wide variety of local businesses. "We are always interested in expanding our membership and welcome visitors," continues Shields.
